Bonjour,
As I sat with myself today, reflecting on some of the major changes I have made in my life; in terms of building a strong mindset/attitude, acquiring some better habits, facing my fears & picking myself up after a setback etc, I realized the vital role mentors have played in my life.
What’s the first thought that strikes your mind when I use the word mentor? A coach, a teacher, a guide? No matter what you call it, I firmly believe each one of you has a mentor; i.e. someone you look up to and reach out to in order to better your lives by acquiring the skills, knowledge & know-how that he/she already possesses. Once equipped with skills and knowledge the sense of certainty to achieve what you want strengthens. It is also important to note that success formula provided by the mentors enables you to reach the end point at a swift pace as the act of committing certain blunders in the process declines to a great extent. In addition, mentors also provide a great source of inspiration and drive, required when faced with severe challenges.
It is often said even the most successful people could not have reached their respective finish line without having someone to nurture, guide, inspire and push them in their journey.
Who are the people you look up to everyday? Who drives you to be at your best when things aren’t going the way you expect them to be? Who is that one individual who triggers the motivation in you when you believe you got nothing left and/or to outperform your own self? Who are the people you aspire to learn from every single day?
None of the changes that have taken place in my life (as mentioned earlier) would have been possible without right mentors. Therefore, I firmly believe you got to commit to the person you look up to wholeheartedly and follow 100 % in order to achieve what you truly want for yourself.
The top 3 people who I follow religiously (besides my folks) are:
1) Tony Robbins: An entrepreneur, best-selling author, philanthropist and a Life Coach. Author of five internationally bestselling books, Mr. Robbins has empowered more than 50 million people from 100 countries through his audio, video and life training programs. The above record speaks for itself. One of the key things I have learnt from him is the art of state management in his book ‘Awaken the Giant Within’, where he talks about the importance of physical and mental state and its link with the ability to perform, when accomplishing your goal.
2) Jim Rohn: The ‘late’ Jim Rohn, focused on the fundamentals of human behavior that most affect personal and business performance. Through his acquired knowledge over years in business, he focused on transformation of human behavior thereby giving individuals an opportunity to excel and produce the best results in their working environment. He had the ability to bring extraordinary insights to ordinary principles and events. I have gotten glued to his philosophies.
3) Les Brown: An American motivational speaker, author, radio DJ, former television host, and former politician. He was given up for adoption and adopted by Mamie Brown. He was declared “educable mentally retarded” in grade school. Despite the self-esteem issues this created, he learned how to reach his full potential with the encouragement of his mother. What inspired me the most about this man is the ‘courage’ and ‘determination’ he had to come out of extremely strong negative conditions physically, mentally and emotionally. For me, the most instrumental learning from him has been with regards to ‘facing fear.’
If a mentor has made a difference to your life, do share your experience in the comments below.
