Why 1% per day improvement can prove to be a game changer in our lives?

Hello everyone,

Ramadan Kareem to all of you. 🙂

This particular topic ‘small improvements on a daily basis’ reminds me of a quote: “Small consistent actions on a daily basis lead to big rewards.”

Majority of us when when deciding to make shifts or changes in our lives tend to focus on taking drastic measures in order to reach the desired goal; unfortunately failing to realize that success lies in performing small rituals daily in order to make an ultimate shift or a change that we truly desire.

Some of the best examples that we all can relate to are – deciding to lose weight, meditating daily, reading/watching something constructive on a daily basis etc.

From my experience, what I have learnt is that most of us (myself included in the past), tend to concentrate on mastering all these habits at once rather than planning to  ‘gradually bettering ourselves in an area we chose to.’

For instance, when one decides to get fit, he/she will think about giving up unhealthy food all at one and/or running 3-4 miles daily. Instead, it would be better to start off with 30 minutes walk consistently and cutting down certain foods to a certain extent ; gradually moving to the desired goal of running 3 miles everyday and eliminating all unhealthy food. Another fine example is that of watching/reading something constructive. One can start off with a ritual of 3 pages of reading on a daily basis as compared to reading 3 chapters of a book right from the word go.

What usually happens when one decides to take a massive leap right away when making changes? Most of the times an individual falters and loses momentum (believing that its impossible), as the change is something new that is being constructed and as a result he/she goes back to old ways. If the focus instead is shifted to acting upon a small effective change on a daily basis, the results would be unimaginable.

We humans usually tend to underestimate the power of small effective rituals which could have a great impact on our lives.

Below are certain areas in which 1% advancement on a daily basis has impacted my life:

1) Reading: Being a person who always stayed away from books except for in school or college (as a mandate), I could never imagine having a passion for reading. However, just by starting off with 3 pages daily (back in the day), I fell for it. As of today, I possess the habit of reading something constructive daily, to a level where I can’t imagine not being surrounded by books and learning something new everyday.

2) Better interpersonal & networking skills: We humans generally tend to shy away from something we ‘believe’ we ain’t good at. However, when i made it a point to expand and grow on these skills, I was simply focused on getting a little better everyday and as a result, I believe I have come a long way than what I was back in the day.

3) Fitness:  From an individual who cared least about healthy diet and training; to being a fitness fanatic today, simply by holding on to an hour of workout on a daily basis, I have amazed myself with the results and the level of physical activity I can perform in a given day. Working out as of today has become a part of my life and its something I can never think of giving up.

The above are some of the direct consequences of acting on this formula (1% advancement) on a daily basis.  The indirect effects are as big (if not more) and something that only we ourselves experience in the process of transformation.

This upgrade by 1% in any aspect we chose to, indirectly also gives birth to tremendous self belief to master anything and everything we desire, extremely high level of self confidence and the drive to better ourselves in other areas of life. In short, to live and perform at our best.

I am sure this write up has given you enough drive to go about and make certain changes right away.

So what are 3 areas you commit to bettering for yourself?
